What would you do?6d agoLet's say you have a coworker and he's doing the FedEx and will call area and you're his backup when he goes to lunch. He comes back from lunch and XPO and Saia both show up at the same time to pick up some LTL. It is the FedEx and will call persons responsibility to load LTL. I asked him if he could load them so I can get back to what I was working on which was the stock truck and he said "you can do it it'll take a couple seconds" even though it's his responsibility. I went to my boss and asked her to verify that whoever is working the FedEx desk has to load LTL. Her response was "I don't give a s\*\*\* who loads the trucks. She said that she... So my friend threw all this in for the build7d agoI've already got my x299 setup as mentioned before in a couple of my posts but these are the real upgrades that my buddy threw in for free that's going to make the system even better I've only got to pay him the hundred back for the razor chroma eventually he's also throwing in a solid state laptop drive that's a terabyte of storage and now that I have the four air scythe fans one I have is not pictured but out of the box this is definitely going to provide the upgrades needed to get my system where I want pretty cool stuff ODFL, SAIA: 7.2/10 BULLISH LTL Freight Inflection Trade 202616d agoWTI crude dropped $8.09 to $90.99/bbl on Apr 14 following Iran ceasefire progress — ODFL and SAIA publish fuel surcharge tables with a 2–4 week lag to DOE weekly diesel prices, meaning Q2 cost relief is already baked in before management confirms it. CHRW at $168.51 is 15.7% below its 52-week high and at 70.2% of its 52-week range — versus JBHT at 94.4% — offering the clearest asymmetry in brokerage ahead of a freight volume recovery. The hard catalyst is ODFL/SAIA Q2 earnings in late July; the soft catalyst is weekly DAT spot rates and the Cass Freight Shipments Index sustaining above their 12-month rolling averages. Yield curve at +52bps (normal growth signal), HY spreads tight at ... LTL Review20d agoLTL Names - Review My notes on this group, if anyone is interested. I’m not currently an owner of any LTLs, though am interested in SAIA. I own a lot of truckload already, though. LTL offers exposure to improving industrial macro data (and some improving micro data), big operating leverage, and declining capex after years of heavy investment. However, valuation is tough as investors were pulled into the group for the YELL exit and since then have also front-run the demand inflection. Only SAIA seems to offer substantial upside with decent quality. Compare to broadly-exposed TL where there is less improving macro data but a lot more positive micro (industry) data, and a strong su... If you are driving up North Bearwallow Road, watch out for this out of control, maniac truck driver. WAY TOO FAST for th...25d ago$ODFL SHORT — The "best-in-class" LTL margins are hiding a capital-heavy model with real downside risk34d agoEveryone in the LTL space talks about Old Dominion like it is the one untouchable name. And look, the service record is real. But I think the bull case glosses over something important. ODFL runs 260 service centers and spent $415M on capex in 2025. That is a massive fixed-cost structure. And right now, they are running with over 35% spare capacity. When freight volumes are strong, that capacity absorbs well. When they are not — which they have not been lately — those fixed costs hammer returns. The operating ratio looks good in the headlines, but it is propped up by pricing discipline that starts to crack the moment volume competition picks back up from XPO or Saia. Here is my actual ... An EF0 hit uptown Charlotte earlier today45d agoNo injuries and light damage. Peak winds around 85mph. Got lucky because it’s a densely populated area. Here’s an [article](https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/nws-confirms-tornado-charlotte-damages-multiple-buildings/M66NR5M2MJAY3NIWEQC6UIYGR4/?outputType=amp) about it. great update ea thanks (how do i fix this T_T)50d agoDoes anyone or has anyone ever worked as a forklift operator / dock worker with an LTL (Old Dominion, Saia, XPO, R+L, et...51d agoSo I recently got laid of from my job (was a small box truck delivery driver for about 3 years), and was thinking about going back to warehouse work. I worked at a couple Amazon warehouses before that for about 3 years. I got experience on stand-up forklift, pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and order pickers there. I figure with that experience I could possibly get a dock worker job at one of these places, even though I've never done sit-down forklift. They seem to pay very decently (Estes Express starts at $26-29 for instance). You can do 2nd or 3rd shift, which is what I actually want. At a lot of them you can seem to get weekends off, which is what I want. Anyways, it seems l... Why Household Goods Load Boards Are Essential in Today's Market [2025 Guide]. Empty miles cost trucking and moving...115d agoEmpty miles cost trucking and moving companies millions of dollars each year. A 2024 survey revealed that backhaul opportunities rose to 28% from 26% the previous year. Trucking businesses now consider a household goods load board an essential tool to address this challenge. Load boards work as marketplaces that connect carriers with available freight. These platforms have become game-changers in the transportation industry. Carriers can quickly find loads while keeping their costs down. The largest load boards now feature over 150,000 carriers and several million customers, with new jobs appearing every 30 seconds. Our experience shows that load boards help companies fill capacity, el... I noticed this when I went to look up Saia the trucking company134d agoBe better not bitter134d agoA lot of these older guys complain because it’s not the good ol days. But they didn’t changes with the times. They thought it was going to be great forever. Didn’t prepare. Now they’re trying to discourage the next generation from Trucking. To me LTL is the BEST route to go for rookies, or even veterans honestly. If you’re spending weeks on the road & aren’t grossing 100k then what’s the point? You’re away from your family making peanuts. It’s not worth it. Almost all the LTL linehaul positions make 100k+. Most local city LTL drivers are making $32+ & don’t have to sleep at truck stops. LTLs also have dock to driver programs & they’ll pay for you... SAIA Inc149d agoSaia, Inc. released LTL operating data for the fourth quarter's initial two months. October saw declines in shipments and tonnage, while November showed increases. The provided data is subject to change, and the company is not obligated to update it. *SAIA Inc [SAIA](https://www.google.com/finance/quote/SAIA:NASDAQ) is headquartered in Johns Creek, GA.* [Source](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1177702/000119312525304538/saia-ex99_1.htm) NMFC class charging157d agohi all, im not a truck driver but i process the LTL shipments for a distribution center. Its musical instruments mostly, so its all shapes & sizes. Might be 20 tubas, big 9 foot truss rods, pricy mixing consoles, 3000 ukuleles, 45" disco ball. Using a SAIA calculator lately to determine the NMFC class of each pallet, density based on dims & weight. Noticed lately that just using skids that are a few inches longer can change the class from 125 to 175. Can anyone tell me if that represents a significant price difference on how much the carrier charges per pallet?
