So I recently got laid of from my job (was a small box truck delivery driver for about 3 years), and was thinking about going back to warehouse work. I worked at a couple Amazon warehouses before that for about 3 years. I got experience on stand-up forklift, pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and order pickers there. I figure with that experience I could possibly get a dock worker job at one of these places, even though I've never done sit-down forklift. They seem to pay very decently (Estes Express starts at $26-29 for instance). You can do 2nd or 3rd shift, which is what I actually want. I’ve been stuck in near standstill traffic today on I-24 heading into Nashville, and there are a few cars that have been using the emergency lanes to drive past the traffic. The vast majority of cars are not doing this, but I notice this trucker and other truckers pulling into the emergency lane to block cars who are using it. Is it that legal? What if someone is truly experiencing an emergency. I know some will abuse it, but there can actually be an emergency and this trucker is impeding the driver from getting by. hi all, im not a truck driver but i process the LTL shipments for a distribution center. Its musical instruments mostly, so its all shapes & sizes. Might be 20 tubas, big 9 foot truss rods, pricy mixing consoles, 3000 ukuleles, 45" disco ball. Using a SAIA calculator lately to determine the NMFC class of each pallet, density based on dims & weight. Noticed lately that just using skids that are a few inches longer can change the class from 125 to 175. Can anyone tell me if that represents a significant price difference on how much the carrier charges per pallet?

I was a truck driver for 20 years. I was local 90% of the time. You can drive LTL Saia, R&L, AAA Cooper and Old Dominion. These jobs pay very well. But, they do random drug tests. You might have to start with a different company to get Experience but you can do it. I did. Started on a Beer Truck and then went LTL. Good luck.

Hey all. I've been using a large (?) freight broker for LTL, maybe 40 loads over the last two years. I have noted that I get a lot of "rebills" or charges after the fact. Having to pay MORE money after the fact because a pallet weighed LESS than my estimate was eye-opening, but since learning about MNFC codes and that Class 77.5 costs less money to ship than Class 110, despite being heavier for the same volume.... well anyhow.   The **most common re-bill for me is liftgate charges**.
