International Post Office Success Stories: Day 7 (FINAL)

## 🌍 The Verdict: Six Countries, One Undeniable Truth **After profiling six successful postal services across three continents, one conclusion is inescapable: Canada Post’s failure is not inevitable, not geographical, not economic—it is a deliberate policy choice designed to justify privatization.** ----- ## The Evidence: A Week of Undeniable Success Stories Over the past week, we’ve examined six postal services that face the same challenges Canada Post claims make success impossible. Here’s what we found: ### 🇮🇹 **Day 1: Italy - Poste Italiane** - **€1.2 billion profit** (H1 2025 alone) - 17,000 contact points serving 60 million people - Diversified: Banking (€600...

## The Most Brazen Public Asset Theft in Canadian History Is Happening Right Now—And They’re Counting on You Not Noticing Let me tell you a story about the biggest scam being run on Canadians right now. It’s not hidden in some shadowy backroom deal. It’s happening in broad daylight, with your tax dollars, involving an asset you’ve already paid for multiple times over. And when it’s done, you’ll pay again—this time to American corporations and private equity vultures who’ll charge you triple for worse service. I’m talking about Canada Post. And if you think this is just about stamps and parcels, you’re exactly where they want you. ## The Setup: Starve, Sabotage, Sell ...

Yet another Purolator story

7d ago

Hello Purolator enjoyers! Wanted to share my ongoing experience with this wonderful company. If you haven’t yet decided to avoid Purolator at all costs, here’s another reason why you probably should. About a month ago, I sold an item and shipped it from Toronto to Florida using Purolator (label purchased through Shopify). Delivery was *reasonably* fast - only double the promised time shown on Shopify - 7 calendar days in total. Can't complain on this particular one. Today, I got a message from my customer asking why they received an invoice with extra fees when they already paid for shipping. They sent me a photo of a **UPS invoice** showing an *“Entry Prep Fee” of $10* and a...

CUPW: CUPW Defends the Public Post Office During OGGO Committee Meeting

7d ago

Tuesday October 28 2025 2023-2027/352 No. 159 On Tuesday, October 28, CUPW participated in the second day of hearings of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates (OGGO) into the situation at Canada Post. During our presentation, we explained how Minister Lightbound’s announcement of sweeping changes to Canada Post last month will gut the public post office, eliminate thousands of good, unionized jobs, and cause real hardship in communities across the country, and highlighted how none of these things need to happen to return the Corporation to sustainability. In fact, most of the announced cuts will only drive more customers away. Cuts Not the Answer ...

🔥Managed Decline” Isn’t a Conspiracy Theory—It’s Documented Strategy🇨🇦

8d ago

When Canada Post defenders claim the corporation is simply suffering from “operational inefficiency,” they’re missing the deliberate policy choices that created this crisis. **The evidence is clear:** Legislated Starvation: The 2013 moratorium on door-to-door delivery expansion didn’t just freeze service—it announced to Canadians that their postal service was being wound down. No growing business tells customers “we’re stopping expansion.” The Harper government effectively declared Canada Post a legacy operation. Systematic Underinvestment: Between 2011-2018, Canada Post’s capital expenditure as a percentage of revenue fell dramatically compared to competitors like USPS...

Is this how Purolator is apparently "better?"

10d ago

Package shipped out Oct 9th and made it to Ontario in 4 days and left on the 5th day (normal and acceptable). Then it takes another 4 days just to reach my province, its a bit long considering if moved through the majority of canada in the same time but still not that big of a deal. THEN it takes another 3 days to move 1.5 hours away from Dieppe to Saint John, fine so be it. At this point my package only has to travel another 30 minutes to my home in Lower Greenwich but it missed a connection. That missed connection somehow ended up meaning that 30 minite drive took an extra 7 days. Only for them to claim noone was home upon delivery when there absolutely was someone home. I made sure of it ...

A Critical Question ❓

11d ago

If Canada Post’s crisis were genuine and management sought to solve it, why would they: •Block revenue-generating alternatives? •Allow profitable work to flow to competitors during labor disputes? •Pay management bonuses while claiming insolvency? •Tolerate performance 2.6-4x worse than international peers? These actions are inconsistent with attempting to solve a crisis but consistent with manufacturing or exacerbating one. # (A Critical Question) # Canada Post Crisis Claims: Sources and Links This document provides direct links and citations for the key claims about Canada Post’s financial crisis and evidence of managed decline. ----- ## 1. Prompt: “Analyze Canada Post’s financial situation but prioritize critical examination over repeating common talking points. Search for recent information and specifically investigate: 1.Whether profitable work is being shifted to subsidiaries (like Purolator) or contractors while losses are attributed to the core postal service 2.Conflicts of interest among decision-makers who might benefit from privatization 3.Whether proposed revenue-generating alternatives (like postal banking) have been blocked and why 4.Comparative financial data from similar postal services (USPS, Royal Mail, etc.) to determine if Canada Post’s losses are exceptional 5.Evidence of deliberate service degra...

At the end of my rope

Posting here because I think most/many of the people visiting this sub are postal workers like me. My friends, family and my customers are supportive but can’t understand what we’re going through. As an LC with just a few years under my belt, lately I feel as though I’ve got a terminal disease that could take me out at any time. It’s as if it’s not a matter of IF, but WHEN. I **** to feel so negative about our situation but nothing that has happened in the past 24 months has been positive for us. My god. In the last 11 months we’ve lost eight weeks of wages, weeks of flyer pay and most of my sanity only to know that it was all for nothing. This ‘pressure’ we’ve been applyin...

Strikes Are Meant to Be Disruptive

# Is Canada Post Violating Anti-Scab Laws by Using Purolator During the Strike? With Canada Post workers currently in rotating strikes, there’s been a lot of confusion about whether the company is breaking Canada’s new anti-scab legislation by routing work through its subsidiary, Purolator. Here’s what’s actually happening. ## The Anti-Scab Law Canada’s federal anti-scab law (Bill C-58) was passed in June 2024 and officially came into effect on **June 20, 2025**. This law prohibits federally regulated employers from using replacement workers during legal strikes or lockouts. ## Timeline: Two Separate Strikes It’s important to understand there have been **two different strike...

Purolator shaft - over and over again

13d ago

I have always had delivery problems with Purolator. This time, I needed overnight delivery so I paid a small fortune. The shipping cost almost as much as the actual contents of the parcel. It did make it to my city, but it's been sitting in their sort facility since 7 this morning. The items are perishable, and other people are also waiting on that shipment. But of course, I doubt I will get it today. This is now the second time I have paid for overnight, and haven't gotten overnight. I have tried calling them, there are no agents, no live chat, nothing. they are unreachable. How do they have any accountability? UPDATE- My parcel ended up going from QC, to my city in AB, ...

🤔The Question Nobody Can Answer About Canada Post🇨🇦

14d ago

For weeks, Canadians have watched the Canada Post strike unfold while being told a familiar story: labour costs are too high, letter mail is dying, and there’s simply no path forward except cuts, concessions, and contraction. It’s a narrative that sounds reasonable on the surface—until you ask one simple question that its proponents can never seem to answer. **What has Canada Post actually done to succeed?** Not what have they said they’ll do. Not what’s in their press releases. What strategies have they successfully implemented in the last decade to make themselves competitive in a rapidly evolving delivery market? What business innovations have they executed? What new revenue ...

🔥Stop the Cuts - No public consultation🏛️

14d ago

**Stop the Cuts - No public consultation** When the Government first announced it would review Canada Post’s mandate, its online posting said public consultation was “required” to review the Canadian Postal Service Charter. Yet, days before the planned review was supposed to start, the Government instead announced massive service cuts – with no warning and no chance for public input. The public must have its say. Tell the Federal Government: Stop the cuts to our public post office! Cuts won’t work The Government is framing its massive cuts as a vital effort to “save Canada Post.” We’re told the cuts are needed so the Government won’t have to give Canada Post “repeated ...

[CA] 2025 CUSMA Shipping Guide: Carrier Comparisons, Fees, and a Decision Matrix for Canadian Exporters

15d ago

From managing a few e-comm stores, the de minimis drop hit us hard—US orders dipped 30% initially until we dialed in CUSMA compliance. We've tested carriers across stores to minimize fees and delays, pulling from our workflows and recent seller feedback. Key is a tight 9-element cert (HS code, origin criteria, etc.) for duty-free entry—blankets cover our repeats for a year. Postal (Canada Post/Zonos) was quirky for us—no solid CUSMA recognition, so CA-origin goods still got 35% IEEPA or flats ($80-$200 tiers: ≤16%=$80, 16-25%=$160, >25%=$200). For non-CUSMA, those flats beat commercial 35% on $600+ packages (e.g., $200 vs $210), but crushed margins on low-value. CBP'...

For the people working in Montréal, has the strike ended over there and parcels started to ship again?

16d ago

I have a package of Vinyl coming from the UK, when i ordered it 2 or 3 weeks ago it was fine, but a few days later the strike started, so based on the tracking of my parcel it's supposed to have been shipped overseas but i don't know if the package is held by Canada Post until the strike is fully over, or if it was given to another Postal company like Purolator or UPS. If anyone working for Canada Post can enlighten me about parcels coming from the UK and other countries right now i would realy apreciate. I'm not trying to be a ****. Have a nice day!

🇩🇰📫A Recent CBC Article Titled: “Denmark’s Dumping Letter Mail. Could Canada?” What This Article Doesn’...

16d ago

The CBC article frames Denmark’s decision to stop letter delivery as inevitable for Canada, but conveniently leaves out context that could support a completely different path forward. Here’s what’s missing: **PostNord is actually profitable now, focusing on parcels.** The company posted SEK 135 million operating income in 2024 after years of losses, with parcel volumes growing 6% in Q4 2024 while mail declined 19%. They didn’t abandon letters because postal service can’t work. They abandoned letters because they successfully pivoted to a profitable parcel-focused business model while maintaining their extensive delivery network. Canada Post could do the same if management wanted...

If You Think Postal Workers Are the Problem, You’re Either Lying or You Haven’t Been Paying Attention 🇨🇦

17d ago

Every single anti-worker talking point you’ve been fed about the Canada Post strike is either a deliberate distortion or recycled neoliberal propaganda that’s been debunked so many times it should be embarrassing to repeat. But here we are. Again. Watching people blame workers for management failures while executives collect bonuses from a “failing” Crown corporation and the government bans strikes without even pretending to care about democracy anymore. So let’s go through this one more time for the people in the back who still think postal workers asking for fair wages is the problem. Because at this point, if you’re still repeating these talking points, you’re either active...

Stop Pretending You Care About “Small Businesses” While You Cheer the Destruction of Good Jobs

21d ago

Let’s cut through the bullshit. The Canada Post strike revealed exactly who stands where when workers dare to ask for their share of the value they create. And what we learned is that a lot of Canadians have been so thoroughly propagandized by decades of neoliberal talking points that they’ll side with management, billionaires, and foreign multinationals over their own neighbors who deliver their mail in blizzards. You spent weeks crying about your delayed parcels and small business losses while cheering when the government banned the strike without even a parliamentary vote. You blamed workers for asking for wages that keep up with inflation while ignoring that Canada Post management...

The Slow-Motion Selloff: How Canada Post Is Being Groomed for Privatization While Canadians Aren’t Looking

22d ago

We’re being told Canada Post is losing money. We’re being told it’s unsustainable. We’re being told workers are asking for too much. But nobody wants to talk about how we got here, who benefits from Canada Post’s engineered decline, or what happens when the Crown corporation finally collapses under the weight of decisions that were never designed to help it succeed in the first place. Let’s start with the elephant in the room: Purolator. Canada Post owns 91% of Purolator—a fact conveniently left out of most conversations about why Canada Post is “struggling.” Think about that for a second. Canada Post doesn’t just compete with private courier companies; it literally owns...
