We've been with a freight forwarder (TBGFS) for several years. We do about 20-30 domestic LTL shipments per year through them (and another 20-30 through Priority1 because they're cheaper), but for our overseas suppliers, we've been using our suppliers' shipping and generally buying DDP. Recently, I had one potential new supplier saying they won't do DDP and only do CIF, so I reached out to TBGFS for a quote on clearing the goods and delivering them from the port to our warehouse. They asked for the 10-digit HTS code associated with the goods, the total value, and the country of manufacture, which I provided. I did say, "but we're not 100% sure that this is...

Anybody know roughly how long LTL quotes would be valid for from UPS Store? I know there's a markup which gives them some wiggle room. A similar lesser known service told me theirs are generally valid for 30 days. But I'd prefer to use UPS Store as it's closer to me. They seem too busy to pick up the phone right now so I figured I'd ask here. Or does each store operate and quote differently?

I don't have enough for a dedicated truck and I tried LTL through Flock Freight but they won't give a time, only a window... and FBT insists on a specific time. Thank you in advance!

For anyone who ships either full truckload or LTL freight, what are the top factors when selecting a logistics provider (cost, service, transit time, etc.)? What makes you choose one provider over another?

I own a small beverage company based in California with no experience with logistics so I really need help... Our products are beverages, so the pallets are heavy (\~2,000 lbs each). We don’t have consistent order volume since many of our distributor orders come in sporadically. We usually work directly with LTL carriers for pricing instead of using a 3PL or broker. Right now, we ship products from our facility in WA down to our warehouse in Hayward, CA using FTL (19 pallets). I’ve been wanting to get my cdl for a years (preferably LTL positions so I can be home with my wife at night), and I know next mile has tuition reimbursement for it. But I haven’t been here the full 90 days yet to earn the benefit. For the record, I've spent 25 years in trucking and logistics. I know the laws, I know the contracts, because I've negotiated more than a few of them. I got hired on at a certain company with white trucks. They dealt primarily in LTL. So at night, the freight moved between terminals. I was in charge of cross border routes.
