I've been writing in some form or another for around \~20 years now (currently in my early 30s). It's just something I've always loved doing, and it's been part and parcel with my lifelong love for reading. Until I was in my mid-20s though, I had never really considered trying to get published. I had not known initially what to make of the pile of mucus and flesh that befell my doorstep as winter arrived. Snow had yet to begin, but cutting gusts of frigid air whalloped my front door to be let in, only allowed to when the mail went too long without being checked. This was how I found it.
